Outline #1
Very important: a presenter should give listeners an outline at the beginning. Explain how many things you will talk about (and maybe tell them how long each part will take). An outline is like a mental map. It helps listeners understand your message.
Taking Notes
If you are a listener, you don't need to write down everything you hear. Only write down some key words (mostly content words = nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs). Leave out most function words such as prepositions and determiners
If you are listening to English, write your notes in English. If you try to listen and translate at the same time, you can easily make mistakes (wrong words, wrong translations etc). For example, if the speaker says "Where's the bell?" but you think he said "Where's the bill?" and write 帳單在哪裡, your mistake will be hard to correct.
Tricks for Taking Notes
When you hear long words, you don't even need to write the entire word. You can write either:
(1) the first syllable of each long word
or
(2) just the important consonants
